Angus Kennedy has again been appointed one of the judges for the annual Regeneration and Renewal Awards 2009. Angus has been one of the judges every year since the awards were introduced three years ago.

Donald McIntosh appointed Local Improvement Adviser (LIA)

In June 2009 CRP’s Donald McIntosh was appointed a Local Improvement Advisor (LIA). Donald is authorised to offer help and advice to Strategic Partnerships in the areas of Adult Health and Wellbeing; Tackling Exclusion and Promoting Equality; and Leadership and Partnership Development.

Local Improvement Advisors are appointed by Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships (RIEPs) under the umbrella of the Government’s National Improvement and Efficiency strategy.

West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust NDC Further Contract

In June 2009 Angus Kennedy’s contract with the West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust NDC was extended to enable him to carry out further work for the Trust as a Local Improvement Adviser (LIA). The initial assistance provided by Angus had proved very beneficial to the Trust in helping them to agree their succession strategy, and the contract was extended to enable further development of the strategy.

Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Regeneration Network Study Visit to Opportunity Peterborough

In June 2009 Angus Kennedy chaired a session of the RTPI Regeneration Network study visit to the Peterborough Urban Regeneration Company, Opportunity Peterborough. Delegates found the session very worthwhile. Some of their comments were:

‘I thought it was very worthwhile. The presentation by Opportunity Peterborough was very good and I thought with limited numbers one could made a meaningful contribution to the debate and that the discussion was both helpful and thought provoking’.

‘The workshop / information sharing approach was excellent. The sessions are particularly important in such challenging times. Keep up the good work!’

The two-day course ‘Planning for Non-Planners’ was delivered in Peterborough in June 2009 and was again very well received by the participants.

NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme – Steering Group Presentation

In June 2009 Donald McIntosh with Michael Brown from Michael Brown Consultancy made a presentation to the Steering Group chaired by the Archbishop of York, the Most Rev & Rt Hon Dr. John Sentamu. The presentation summarised the findings in supporting the Programme in the development of its Single Equality Scheme (SES). The report and presentation were received favourably by Steering Group members. The presentation concluded stage 2 of the contract, which now moves to the final stage in the development and consultation of the Single Equality Scheme, with completion towards the end of 2009.

More Planning Courses for Non-Planners: Article in Regeneration and Renewal 9 June 2009

The Journal ‘Regeneration and Renewal’ on 9 June 2009 contained a news article about the extension of the Planning for Non-Planners programme due to continued demand. CRP had been appointed in April to deliver several of the programmes.

The text of the article is given below:

‘More Planning Courses for Non-Planners

A seminar series on planning for non-planners has been extended by regeneration skills body the HCA Academy and the British Urban Regeneration Association due to continued demand.

The programme aims to provide non-planning professionals – especially local authority staff – with an insight into the English planning system.

As part of the course, participants will consider how their responsibilities are affected by planning, identify how they can engage better with the planning system and lean about its role in regeneration.

The two-day course consists of a seminar on planning policy and its relationships with design, the environment and communities. This will be followed by a study visit to a local development site the next day.

HCA Academy chief executive Gill Taylor said: ‘In the current economic climate, regeneration and development departments in local authorities are under increasing pressure to perform. I’m confident this course will be welcomed by all non-planners and will help them to successfully deliver regeneration schemes across the country.’
