    Sustainable Communities and Regeneration Masterclass 2007

    Filed under: Masterclass, Regeneration;

    Following the success of the first Masterclass in 2006, Angus Kennedy was again asked by the three sponsor organisations (Chartered Institute of Housing, British Urban Regeneration Association and the Academy for Sustainable Communities) to plan and organise a similar Masterclass for 2007.  The programme was aimed at senior managers in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

    Following extremely positive feedback the previous year the format and structure remained the same while the Masterclass 2007 further developed the themes that had been established the year before.

    The three separate 24-hour residential modules were delivered in February, March and April, and again enabled in-depth consideration of the issues.  The speakers included many eminent leaders in public, private and voluntary organisations.  Among them were Peter Housden, Permanent Secretary, Department for Communities and Local Government; Hank Dittmar, Chief Executive, The Prince’s Foundation; Professor Peter Roberts, Chair, Academy for Sustainable Communities; Jon Rouse, Chief Executive, Housing Corporation; John Thompson, Chair, RIBA Urbanism and Planning; and Alan Murie, Professor of Urban and Regional Studies, University of Birmingham.

    Delegates came from an even broader range of professions than the previous year, and welcomed the opportunity to listen to and debate with top speakers in regeneration.

    Feedback was, if anything, even more positive than the year before, with delegates saying they had benefited from an inspirational event which would influence them, their professions and their organisations.  Delegates were also anxious to remain in contact with each other and continue the networks that had been built up over the course of all the debates, discussions, workshops and social activities.

    Masterclass Alumnus wins Award
    Peter Holbrook of the Sunlight Development Trust, who attended the Masterclass in 2006, won the Regeneration and Renewal Individual Award in 2007.

    Peter is the CEO of the Sunlight Development Trust and Sunlight Community Enterprises.  Following the 2006 Masterclass he wrote to Angus to thank him and he made the following comments:

    ‘…. such a great line up of speakers.  I found the master class an unprecedented opportunity to explore best practise visions and values of the sustainable communities agenda; to then be given the opportunity to debate the key drivers with the other delegates and speakers, with all their different experiences and perspectives was inspiring.  Thank you so much to CIH, BURA and ASC for an excellent master class and for providing me with such a unique learning opportunity.’
